Destijds was het een geschenk van koning João V aan een van zijn hofdames, Dona Maria, op wie hij hopeloos verliefd was. Op dit prachtige, oude domein wordt wijn gemaakt volgens de modernste technologie maar daarnaast ook nog steeds op de klassieke manier. Zo zijn de druiven voor deze wijn, afkomstig van 40 jaar oude stokken, handmatig geplukt en in de marmeren lagares met de voeten getreden. De druivensoort Touriga Nacional is een van de belangrijkste inheemse blauwe druivensoorten van Portugal en en wordt gebruikt voor port-wijnen maar ook voor karakteristieke, heerlijke, geconcentreerde rode wijnen. De wingerd beslaat 80 ha waarvan 12 ha metwitte en 68 met rode druiven is beplant. De terroir bestaat uit klei en kalk die water vasthoudt waardoor geen irrigatie nodig is. De druiven worden met de hand geoogst, met de voeten getreden, waarna de most in 7 dagen vergist. Na demalolactische gisting rijpt de jonge wijn 12 maanden op nieuw Frans eiken. Op dronk en houdbaar, mits goed bewaard, tot 10 jaar na de oogst. Also I bought a bottle and after like a hundred pumps nothing ever came out so I exchanged for a new one and the second did the same thing, I figured they couldn't both be broken so I just kept pumping and pumping and pumping (literally way too many times) and it finally started spraying and has been working perfectly fine. So just keep pricing that pump for what feels like forever and it'll start working for you! I highly recommend this product
