Considered the innovator of "horizontal history," Genevieve Foster became frustrated when her two school-aged children complained about the boring presentation of history in their school textbooks. This frustration led to Foster's first book, George Washington's World (1941).
In her unique approach, Foster weaves a story of the world around her central character; rather than focusing exclusively on geo-political events, as most textbooks do, she includes stories of scientific discovery and invention, music, literature, art, and religion. Her keen intuition for stories will especially delight and amuse youthful readers.
The period measured by the life of George Washington”1732 to 1799 ”was one of revolution and change in many parts of the world as Enlightenment thinking took hold in the minds of men.
When George was a young man, Benjamin Franklin was the most well-known American, Louis XV was on the throne of France, and George II was king of England. Father Junipero Serra had just arrived in Mexico to work with the Panes Indians. Mozart and Bach were writing their immortal music and Voltaire warred with his pen against Ignorance, Injustice and Superstition. The young nobleman Lafayette watched the feisty American colonies with fascinated interest as they stood up to Mother England when she sought to tax them unfairly. James Cook was sent by the Royal Society of London to Tahiti where their team of astronomers might observe a total eclipse of the sun and thereby accurately measure the distance between the earth and the sun.
These are just a few of the wonderful narratives explored by Foster in her Newbery Honor Book. Foster's detailed pen and ink drawings are fresh and appealing, and her illustrated timelines give a clear sense of chronology, enriching the engaging text. Foster's telling of the life story of George Washington does justice to the man it celebrates.

He loved it
Is it durable? Not at all. Did he love it? While it lasted. Our dog is a monster chewer with toys so I go into every purchase knowing we might get 8 hours out of a toy if we're lucky, depending on visible durability. We don't even buy stuffies anymore because it's just not smart. He loved the squeak while it lasted, it's large so we never have to worry about him choking on it while running/being dumb. If you have a dog that will eat pieces of things as they destroy toys, this is not the toy for them. Ours plucks it apart piece by piece, but leaves the bits near one of us (LUCKILY!). If he didn't, we'd never buy this again. The missing star is just for lack of durability. Even for a rubber toy it felt like it didn't last very long.

I highly recommend and my dog loves it
I have a 80 pound bulldog who destroys everything he gets his mouth on. He loves this toy. He has not been able to destroy it. Not even a bite mark. He has to have this with him at all times (including during zoomies). I highly recommend it

Reed review don’t really recommend
Did not last very long with my larger dog. And honesty it was destroyed in about 15 minutes completely, and when my dog was tearing it apart, the chunks were large enough for my dog to choke on, so I would highly recommend watching your dog with this toy if they decide to chew it and tear it apart, so they don’t choke so this could be a possibly dangerous toy.

Best fetch toy for aggressive chewers.
Great toy to play fetch. I have aggressive chewer, and this works wonderful. Not heavy, and is soft, not like hard plastic. My dog loves them, (I bought 2). The bright color is easy to find, when you dog misplaces it. The price was very good, and well worth it. I recommend this toy, especially for retrieving dogs.
