Shibuichi Fuchikashira Signed "Torinsai Katsutoshi" with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu - Fighting SamuraiFuchikashira signed "Torinsai Katsutoshi". He was a member of Kurowa family. Used to sign Hokensai, Kojusai, Kakujusai, Katsutoshi, Katsuyuki and Torinsai. Based on available resources it seems he was working in Shimotsuke and Hitachi (Mito) province. According to Haynes Index he was active around 1750, however Toso Kinko Jitten by Wakayama places him in a late edo period. His works seems to be popular in western collections. According to NBTHK this piece depicts fight of samurai in armour. It reacquires further study to learn what story exactly it might be.
Made of shibuichi with copper, silver, gold, shibuichi and shakudo inlay. With gold and silver iroe.
