Avoid cutting the wick short; if a mushroom shape forms, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool completely, and gently remove the tip.

Beeswax does not expire. Burn time varies depending on environment. If tunneling occurs, a simple solution is to allow the candle to burn longer so the wax can even out.
