Rheumatology in Chinese Medicine is now available in a durable softcover edition.

While rheumatological disorders (e.g., joint and other musculoskeletal pain) are perhaps the most commonly seen problems in clinics of Chinese medicine, until now there has been no comprehensive book on this important subject. Rheumatology in Chinese Medicine is the first of its kind in any language.

The subject is presented in four parts:

  • PART ONE lays the groundwork for the traditional Chinese approach to rheumatology, including a discussion of the makeup of the human organism and the interaction between movement and the channels.
  • PART TWO is a translation of the chapters on painful obstruction (bi) and lower back pain from one of the best modern Chinese texts on internal medicine.
  • PART THREE presents the authors' own approach to rheumatological disorders, which utilizes many aspects of the modern French energetic acupuncture models, including barrier and trigger points.
  • PART FOUR contains a rich selection of translations from a dozen premodern classical texts regarding rheumatological disorders.

Contents

  • The Concept of Rheumatism in Traditional Chinese Medicine: Energetic Body & Locomotor System, The Channels, Etiological Factors in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Pain
  • Traditional Approaches to Rheumatology in Modern China: Painful Obstruction, Panarthralgia Disorder, Lower Back Pain
  • Clinical Practice of an Acupuncturist in Rheumatology: Painful Obstruction Disorders, Chronic Polyarticular Painful Syndromes, Degenerative Joint Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Postmenopausal Osteoporosis, Gout, Sciatica, Neck Pain, Shoulder Pain, Elbow Pain, Wrist & Hand Pain, Hip Pain, Knee Pain, Foot Pain
  • Classic Texts in Traditional Chinese Medicine: Selections on Rheumatology & Related Subjects
  • Refereneces: Supplemental Materia Medica, Bibliography
  • Multiple Indices

Reviews

"Essential for all acupuncturists . . . Destined to be another English TCM classic."
—Bastyr University Library Letter

"Sets a new standard for English-language textbooks in all Chinese medical specialties. I know I am not alone in my belief that the future of Chinese medicine is in the West. If this is true, then a revolution must occur in its literature as well, and Rheumatology in Chinese Medicine is at the leading edge of that change."
—Charles Chace, L.Ac., in The Journal of Chinese Medicine

"A generous gift to the next generation of acupuncturists."
—Joseph Helms, M.D., Author, Acupuncture Energetics

"Those of us who treat arthritic and rheumatic conditions know what difficult cases they are, especially when they stop improving. This book, with its roots in the classics, will give a whole new dimension to future treatments."
—The European Journal of Oriental Medicine

Good Space Savings, but the Bag Zippers don't hold very well
Size: 15 Combo Travel Size
I purchased these Vacbird travel vacuum bags mainly to save space in carry-on luggage and cruise packing, and the overall concept works well. The included rechargeable air pump is compact and convenient for travel, and the compression bags can significantly reduce the amount of space taken up by clothing and soft items when sealed properly. The bags themselves are easy to fill and compress, and they can definitely help organize luggage more efficiently for longer trips. For bulky clothing like jackets, sweatshirts, or extra layers, the space savings are noticeable. The rechargeable pump is also more convenient than manually rolling air out of the bags repeatedly. The reason this isn’t a higher rating is the zipper closure quality. The zippers feel much weaker than they should for a product designed around repeated compression and travel handling. Several closures required extra care to avoid separating or leaking air, which reduces confidence in long-term durability. The system works, but the zipper design feels like the weak point and keeps the product from feeling as reliable as it otherwise could be.

Small fan, serious power
Color: Black
I bought the Honeywell Turboforce Fan for my bedroom, and I’m honestly impressed with how powerful this little thing is. Don’t let the compact size fool you — it moves a lot of air. On the lowest setting it’s perfect for a gentle breeze while sleeping, and the higher settings can easily cool down a medium-sized room or help circulate AC much more efficiently. The 90-degree pivoting head is a great feature. I can angle it upward for better air circulation or point it directly at me when it’s extra hot. It’s lightweight, easy to move around, and doesn’t take up much space on a desk or nightstand. It can also be wall-mounted, which is a nice bonus. Noise level is reasonable. On low, it’s actually a pleasant white noise. Medium and high are louder, but not in an annoying way — just the sound of strong airflow. Build quality feels solid for the price, and it’s been running daily without any issues. For the cost, this fan seriously overperforms. If you need a compact, affordable, and powerful fan, this is a no-brainer. I’d absolutely buy it again.

Great price and very quiet
Color: Black
I use the Honeywell TurboForce HT-900 in my home office to help with airflow around my computer setup, and it’s been a solid performer for the price. Despite its small size, it moves a surprising amount of air. On high, it pushes a strong, focused stream that actually reaches across the room. Medium is what I use most often since it balances good circulation with reasonable noise, and low is quiet enough to run in the background without being distracting. Noise levels are generally acceptable. Low and medium are fairly quiet with a consistent hum, while high is noticeably louder but still not unbearable for short bursts. It’s also very simple to position and use. The head tilts easily, so you can aim airflow exactly where you need it, and the compact size makes it easy to place on a desk without taking up much space. Overall, it’s a straightforward, no-frills fan that does its job well. Strong airflow, simple controls, and good value for the price.

Powerful and long lasting
Color: Black
I purchased a blue colored one in May 2022 and it finally went out a few days ago. I ran this thing almost constantly as im going through menopause and it came to be a staple at my bedside. 4 years of running ALL THE TIME! Great little fan with a ton of airflow to keep me cool during night sweats. And it has just enough white noise to distract from outside noise. Also, the motor power never differentiated after using for so long. It was still strong. I just ordered another one to replace it and cant wait for it to arrive so I can sleep again! Only thing is they only have bakck or white instead of blue this time but thats ok as long as it performs.
