Victron MultiPlus 48/20k/250-100 230V: Professional Off-Grid Energy Management

High-Performance Inverter and Charger for Demanding Applications

The Victron MultiPlus 48/20k/250-100 230V is a premium multifunctional inverter and charger engineered for demanding off-grid, marine, mobile, and industrial setups. Designed to provide a reliable and uninterrupted AC power supply, this unit integrates flawlessly with solar arrays, generators, and grid connections. By combining advanced power conversion technology with intelligent energy management, it ensures your critical systems remain operational even in the most challenging conditions.

Unlike standard power solutions that may struggle with sudden surges, this system delivers an impressive 25 kW of peak power. This high peak capacity is crucial for starting heavy-duty equipment with high inrush currents, such as air conditioners, water pumps, and power tools, without overloading the system. Additionally, the integrated battery charger provides a 250 A charge current, allowing for rapid replenishment of your battery bank. This fast-charging capability is highly beneficial when relying on a generator, as it drastically reduces run hours, minimises noise, and lowers fuel consumption.

Intelligent PowerControl and PowerAssist

Managing multiple power sources can be complex, but the built-in PowerControl and PowerAssist features simplify the process while protecting your equipment. PowerControl allows you to configure a maximum limit for your generator or grid input. The system will prioritise supporting your AC loads and only use the surplus energy for battery charging, preventing the external AC source from overloading.

PowerAssist takes this functionality further by actively supplementing a limited generator or shore power connection with energy from your batteries. When peak demand exceeds the capacity of your AC source, the inverter instantly provides the difference. Once the load decreases, the surplus power is immediately redirected back to charging the batteries. This seamless load sharing provides unmatched stability for high-draw applications.

Seamless Transfer and Dual AC Outputs

In the event of a grid failure or generator disconnection, the main AC output features an ultra-fast transfer switch that takes over in under 20 milliseconds. This acts as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), ensuring sensitive electronics like computers, servers, and communication gear remain online without rebooting. A secondary AC output is also available, which remains active only when an external AC source is present, making it perfect for high-draw, non-critical loads like water heaters.

Scalable and Future-Proof System Design

For systems that require even more power, up to six units can operate in parallel to achieve higher output. Furthermore, they can be configured for three-phase operation, making this an incredibly versatile foundation for large-scale energy storage systems. When paired with a GX device, you gain full access to the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal, allowing you to monitor, control, and optimise your entire power system from anywhere in the world.

Delivering an exceptional 20kW of continuous output power and supporting a 38V to 60V DC input range, this specific model is perfectly suited for large commercial battery banks and heavy industrial loads.

Best Book on Improving Communication in Relationships
Format: Paperback
Such a helpful book, with concrete tips for improving communication in relationships. I find myself returning to this book whenever things become challenging in a relationship. I also attended a retreat based on the book’s teachings. Incredibly helpful.

Interesting, but not empirically validated, and written explicitly for straight people (why?!)
Format: Kindle
This one’s the 500-pound gorilla of the healthy-couple self-help genre, with thirty years in print, scores of Oprah appearances by the authors, thousands of therapists practicing the Imago framework. The main thing that I need to tell you about this updated edition, from the year 2019, is that it does not mention or acknowledge the existence of queer or same-sex couples even one time. In fact, it really doubles down on the husband and wife stuff, takes gender roles pretty seriously, which is not a thing I realized we did anymore, except as a joke. Anyway, talking only to straight people is not too relevant to my interests, and while the conservative Christian viewpoint is pretty subtle in the advertising, just be aware of that PROBABLY NOT ACCIDENTAL omission going in, queer friends. (This is made even more impressive by the fact that the heart of the Imago approach is based on childhood trauma, about the ways in which our parents caused us to suppress or hide or ignore parts of ourselves in order to be accepted and loved. Just let that sink in, because I’ve been reading this book for the past week and I am still reeling from the irony that people who have been thinking for the past three decades about the ways that parents cause trauma to kids by failing to accept parts of them have missed the VERY OBVIOUS AND RELEVANT EXAMPLE of queer folks.) That aside, for me the book was a mixed-bag of some interesting and provocative ideas (I’d put these in the category of poetic notions, or interesting narrative ideas), alongside some really kooky 20th century neo-Freudian stuff (rooted in part in Freud’s theory of repetition compulsion.) I’m no fan of Freudian approaches, and after I started this book, I decided to see how empirically-validated this Imago approach is: based on what I found, there seems to be basically no evidence that this therapy is effective. Am I glad I read it? I think so?? It was thought-provoking, with the pretty significant grain of salt that there’s not much evidence to support that Imago therapy is much better than doing nothing at all. Also, I feel a little gross giving my money to relationship experts who (in 2019!!)) won’t even acknowledge the existence of queer people, even when doing so would obviously strengthen their core arguments and provide better examples than some of the meek ones they give.
