The original Christmas tree
This is a Norway Spruce. Short, sharp needles. A strong pine scent from the moment you bring it indoors. A full, conical shape that fills the room and holds christmas decorations without bowing.
The Norway Spruce is the traditional Christmas tree. It came to Britain before the Nordmann Fir. People grew up with it. Many still choose it for the scent alone.
Good Elf cuts each tree to order. We only cut trees we sell. The tree at your door has not been sitting in a car park for weeks.

The scent
Why people still choose a Norway Spruce
The Nordmann Fir is our bestseller. It has good needle retention and stays tidy through the festive season. But it has almost no scent.
The Norway Spruce is a different tree. The pine scent hits you the moment you open the front door. It fills the house. It is what many people remember from childhood. That is why they come back to it every year.
The trade-off is needle drop. A Norway Spruce will shed some needles in a warm room. This is normal. Stand it in water, keep it away from radiators, and cut the trunk base before placing it in the stand. Do this and it holds well through Christmas.
Choose Your Size
Finding the right fit
Measure ceiling to floor before you order. Leave room at the top for a star or angel.
4ft tree / 120cm
Good for a hallway, a small room, or as a second tree. Easier to manage in tight spaces.
5ft tree / 150cm
Works well in standard rooms. A classic size for the Norway Spruce.
6ft tree / 180cm
Most popularOur most popular size. Fills a room with a ceiling up to 8ft without crowding it.
7ft tree / 210cm
A statement tree. Works in a large sitting room or an open hallway.
8ft tree / 240cm
For higher ceilings. Use a stand with a wide, heavy base to hold the weight.
Tree care
Keeping your Norway Spruce at its best
Stand it in water from day one
Use a stand with a reservoir the moment it arrives. Top it up every day. A Norway Spruce is thirsty. Let it run dry and needle drop speeds up fast.
Keep it away from heat
Radiators, underfloor heating, and log burners dry the tree out. A cool corner away from heat sources is the best spot.
Cut the trunk base
Cut half an inch from the base of the trunk before placing it in the stand. This opens the wood and helps it drink. Do not skip this step.
Put it up later in December
A Norway Spruce looks best in its first two weeks. Put it up closer to Christmas and take it down before New Year for the best result.

Questions
Common questions
What is a traditional Christmas tree?
A traditional Christmas tree is a Norway Spruce. It is the tree that started Christmas tree culture in Britain. Short, sharp needles. A strong pine scent. A classic conical shape. The Nordmann Fir took over as the bestseller in the 1990s, but the Norway Spruce is still the tree many people grew up with.
Will a traditional Christmas tree drop its needles?
Yes. A Norway Spruce will drop some needles, especially in a warm room. This is part of the tree. Stand it in water, cut the trunk base before placing in the stand, and keep it away from radiators. Do this and it holds well through the festive season. If needle retention is your priority, choose a Nordmann Fir instead.
Does a Norway Spruce smell?
Yes. The pine scent is strong from the moment you bring it indoors. This is the main reason people choose a Norway Spruce over a Nordmann Fir. The Nordmann has better needle retention but almost no fragrance. The Spruce trades some needle retention for a scent that fills the house.
What size should I choose?
Measure ceiling to floor before ordering. Leave at least 20cm between the top of the tree and the ceiling for a star or angel. A 6ft tree fits most rooms with a standard ceiling. Go to 7ft or 8ft if you have higher ceilings and the space for it.
How is the tree delivered?
We deliver in London with our own team. If you are not in, we find somewhere safe to leave it. Nationwide orders travel by tracked courier and arrive before 2pm on your chosen date. Christmas tree delivery starts from £5.95.
Can I order by phone?
