What it's used for

  • Skirting boards fitted at the base of internal walls in hallways, living rooms, and bedrooms where a consistent hardwood finish is required
  • Architrave sets framing internal door linings and frames to give a neat transition between door frame and plasterwork
  • Matching ovolo profile throughout a single room or open-plan space for a uniform, traditional look
  • Feature installations such as bay window reveals or fireplace surrounds where the warm grain of White Oak is a design choice in itself

Fitting and handling

American White Oak is a stable hardwood, but allow the boards to acclimatise in the room where they will be fitted for at least 48 hours before installation, keeping them flat and away from direct heat sources such as radiators. For a clean finish with no visible fixings, apply a suitable instant grab adhesive to the back face; where additional mechanical fixing is needed, pre-drill pilot holes to avoid splitting the grain near the ends. Once fixed, apply your chosen finishing oil, stain, or lacquer in the conditions stated by the manufacturer, ensuring the room is adequately ventilated.

FAQ

What is the difference between nominal and finished size on these boards?

Nominal size refers to the rough-sawn measurement before machining. Once the profile is cut and the faces are planed smooth, the board loses a small amount of material, leaving a finished thickness of 20mm. The width figures listed (75mm, 100mm, 125mm, 150mm) are also nominal, so the actual face width will be slightly less after machining.

Can I use this American White Oak skirting in a kitchen or bathroom?

Solid hardwood skirting and architrave are not recommended in areas of persistent moisture such as wet rooms or directly behind kitchen sinks. In a kitchen or bathroom where humidity fluctuates, ensure the timber is fully sealed on all faces and edges with a suitable lacquer or oil before fitting, and maintain good ventilation to reduce the risk of movement or swelling over time.

Do I need to buy skirting and architrave separately for a matching set?

No. This listing covers both skirting and architrave cut to the same ovolo profile, so you can order both from the same product in the widths that suit each application. A wider board such as the 150mm is typically used for skirting at floor level, while the 75mm or 100mm widths are commonly chosen for architrave around door frames.

Large is a little big for Bostons
Color: Dogwood (Brown), Size: Large (Pack of 1)
Seems to be durable for 2 VERY agressive chewer Boston Terriers. Cricket and Alice are shockingly good at chewing - grateful they pick to do so with thier toys. Trial vs other name brand competitor. PetStages' is a little larger so harder to bite on fir small dogs, but seems to be equally durable. While PetStages proudly states it has real wood fiber and scent (whoch I thought would win)... they prefered the other. Both dogs love to chew on real sticks. But, when the bossy one indicated she was taking over the stick the other dog had, they exchanged, and kept chewing, over and over, back and forth. I mean to say, whatever the prefered stick was at first didnt seem to matter later. These super hard chew toys do make me nervous. One dog broke a tooth last summer on a different brand toy, a very expensive extraction bill, and poor pup's terrible discomfort... but the other did not and has amazing white teeth, all around.... so.

The best chew ever for a strong chewer
Color: Dogwood (Brown), Size: Large (Pack of 1)
We have a 77lb goldendoodle who loves these. We’re lucky because he doesn’t chew on anything other than his toys, but when he starts on this…he really goes at it. It’s healthy, (not synthetic), doesn’t break apart, (no pieces to worry about him swallowing), it just perfect for him. The noise may get on your nerves but it’s a small price to pay to keep him from chewing on your furniture, shoes, or anything else a mischievous dog can find.
