This Channel Pear Conch Shell Door Knocker is handcrafted by Colby Smith. As the pine tree is the symbol of immortality, the cones are regarded as symbols of fertility. The shell, from which the pattern for this door knocker was made, was caught in Southern New England waters by a local shell fisherman in a wooden trap.

Materials

This door knocker is sand-cast in yellow brass, and has been dipped in lacquer to preserve the finish. The lacquer can be removed with lacquer thinner. The door knocker measures 8.75"x4." Mounting hardware is included.

About the Artist

These door knockers are substantial - easily recognized from a distance and interesting in detail up close. Each piece is sand cast in solid yellow or red brass, hand finished, assembled and lacquered for tarnish resistance. Various color patinas and nickel plating can also be applied to any design. Mounting hardware is provided for use on wood, metal or fiberglass/composite doors. If ever needed, Colby will completely refinish his door knockers for a small fee.
