About the artist:

André Guérin Le Guay (1872–1945) was a French painter primarily active in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. Often referred to as the "little master of Montmartre," he is best known for his atmospheric landscapes and seascapes.
His work is mainly in the post-impressionist movement, with touches of Art Nouveau style visible in some of his compositions.
  • Venice and the Navy: The city of the Doges is one of his most recurring subjects. He painted numerous views of the lagoon, gondolas, and churches like Santa Maria della Salute, often playing on the mist and reflections of the water.
  • Genre Scenes and Figures: In addition to seascapes, he explored scenes with figures, sometimes in a neoclassical style, such as his paintings depicting women on stairs or caravans by the sea.
  • Techniques: He was equally skilled in oil on canvas as he was in watercolor and gouache on paper or cardboard.
  • Origin: Born in Paris in 1872, he was the son of Charlotte Le Guay.
  • Anchored in Montmartre: He lived and worked in the heart of Parisian artistic life, notably at 29 rue Gabrielle in Montmartre.
  • Recognition: Although considered a niche artist, his works are present in some public collections, notably at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Étienne, which holds a watercolor entitled Landscape with Silhouetted Figures

A richly atmospheric French landscape by listed artist Guérin Le Guay, a painter born in 1872 and known for his evocative European scenes and masterful use of light.

This piece captures a moody riverside setting beneath a luminous sky, where softened clouds and reflections dissolve into one another in a way that feels both grounded and dreamlike. A distant boat and architectural forms emerge gently through the haze, giving the composition depth without heaviness.

What makes this painting exceptional is its surface — thick, expressive oil work layered over time, creating a tactile, almost sculptural quality. The patina, subtle crackling, and tonal harmony speak to its age and authenticity.

Le Guay’s work has appeared at auction consistently since the 1990s, and he is represented in the collection of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Étienne Métropole. His subjects often included Venetian scenes, French ports, and atmospheric landscapes such as this — always with a sensitivity to light and mood.

This is a piece that anchors a space quietly but powerfully — timeless, European, and deeply collectible.

Better than thin plastic boards
I used to use one of those thin/bendable plastic cutting boards, thinking it's easier to transfer food into pots/pans from the board, but they tend to get bent in time and they're simply too thin and I hated the feeling of my knife pretty much hitting the kitchen counter. So, I decided to buy this set. I wanted to try a wooden board, but didn't want to spend too much in case I didn't like it, and this set had the perfect price tag and I liked the fact it came with 4 different sizes, so that I can see what size would actually be more useful. I've been using it for 2 months now they're doing great (except one of them started splitting a bit and started showing some strange black dots on the side... possibly mold??? though I can't think of any reason why mold would grow on just one of them. Maybe it's related to the fact that it's the only one that's cracking. And this is the only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.) Anyway, apart from that one, the rest are doing well and having 3 boards is plenty. I like the juice groove to avoid spilling liquid on the board, as it happened so many time using the bendable plastic boards. I'm handwashing them with dish soap. They seem to dry pretty fast, and so far no stains etc. on the surface. They're not super duper thick so even the largest one is not too difficult to handle. I sometimes use them to serve some food like appetizers, snacks, pizzas and sandwiches, etc. too!

Updated review: spitting and splintering
UPDATE: Originally, one of the boards arrived with a split in it, but I was still happy with them. After a few weeks of light use, hand washing and drying of the boards, I figured it was time to update this review and knock these down to 1 star. The boards do not hold up very well. Cut marks are deep, and they are starting to splinter. Another of the boards has also developed a split. Save your money and go with cutting boards from someone else. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought these cutting boards to cut down on microplastic exposure. This would be a 5 star review except that one of the boards arrived cracked (noticed while hand washing all of them before use). Despite the one cracked board, I did not return them, as I immediately started using the boards, was too busy to deal with it at the time, and the overall value was still there. These boards are great, the value is excellent since you get several of different sizes. I like that all sizes have the moat for juices, because sometimes you are cutting one or two chicken breasts or one steak and don’t want to have to grab a big board. I honestly am writing this review because I wouldn’t be surprised if the company sends me a replacement. If they do, I will update the review to reflect their customer service.
