The bamboo is wired to form a bail at the top to be worn with a chain. The jadeite stone is moderately translucent, you can see the variation of the stone when held to light. Tested by refraction, genuine jadeite. Purchased from a gemologist at a USA gem trade show. The jadeite and sterling silver are truly gorgeous together.
