Satellite fue diseñada por Mathieu Matégot Rigitulle en 1953, y el nombre de la lámpara, se lo dio Matégot como guiño y homenaje al progreso científico de Francia en los años posteriores a la Segunda Guerra Mundial.



La técnica y el material, invención del propio Matégot, hace posible doblar y plegar la lamina de metal consiguiendo así un efecto relajado y escultural.
