Smart-Boost SB-40 Digital Rotary Phase Converter

The Smart-Boost SB-40 is a high-capacity digital rotary phase converter built for large three-phase equipment that places extreme demand on power during startup. Using Smart-Boost digital control technology, it can surge up to 600 percent additional current at startup, giving heavy motors the support they need to start smoothly and reliably.

This unit is designed for operations where startup issues are not just annoying, they are expensive. If motors downstream struggle to overcome inertia, hesitate under load, or fail to start consistently, the SB-40 is engineered specifically to solve that problem.

Built for Large, Hard-Starting Industrial Equipment

The SB-40 is intended for large air compressors, submersible pumps, flywheel-driven systems, gearhead lathes, and other high-inertia three-phase machinery. These machines often demand several times their normal running current at startup, which is where conventional rotary phase converters reach their limits.

Smart-Boost technology responds dynamically to these conditions, delivering extra current only at the moment it is needed. This allows demanding equipment to start reliably without overstressing the electrical system or the converter itself.

How Smart-Boost Digital Control Works

At the core of the SB-40 is a Smart-Boost digital controller that uses solid-state relays to re-energize the start capacitors at zero-degree crossing on the sine wave. This precise timing allows the system to inject additional current during startup while minimizing electrical noise and harmonic distortion.

In practical terms, this results in stronger motor starts, smoother transitions to operating speed, and cleaner power behavior in demanding industrial environments.

Smooth Starts and Efficient Power Delivery

Soft-start functionality reduces mechanical and electrical shock during startup. Motors ramp up smoothly instead of pulling aggressively, helping extend the service life of both the equipment and the phase converter.

The low-impedance, high-efficiency design supports effective power transfer, resulting in better motor response and more predictable performance under heavy load.

Integrated Controls and Built-In Protection

The Smart-Boost SB-40 includes an integrated control panel with a built-in motor starter and solid-state relay. Startup and operation are handled automatically, keeping the system straightforward to use even in complex industrial setups.

All components are housed in a NEMA 1 indoor-rated enclosure, intended for clean, dry environments where accessibility and protection are both important.

Industrial Components Built for Long-Term Operation

At the heart of the system is an idler-generator motor from ABB Baldor, widely trusted in industrial applications for durability and long service life. Self-healing, oil-filled motor start and run capacitors support consistent performance over time, even with repeated heavy startups.

Combined with solid-state digital control, these components make the SB-40 a long-term power solution rather than a temporary workaround.

High-Capacity Startup Power for Industrial Operations

The Smart-Boost SB-40 is built for operations where startup performance directly impacts productivity and equipment longevity. By delivering intelligent, high-current support precisely when it is needed, it provides a dependable way to run demanding three-phase equipment from single-phase power.

Energy Systems Central supplies power solutions designed for real industrial challenges. The Smart-Boost SB-40 reflects that approach, precise, robust, and engineered for equipment that needs more than standard phase conversion.

Wow! Great Stuff!
Format: Hardcover
Before I read this book, I had just read the other recent Batman trade, "Life After Death" by Tony S. Daniel, and I was seriously disappointed. I really struggled to get through it. So the next night, I started to read this one, Batman vs Robin, and I couldn't put it down - I almost read the whole book in one sitting (if it wasn't late at night, I probably would have finished it). It just confirms, once again, what a great writer Grant Morrison is. In this trade, you get two main story arcs (with a nice "cameo" by Batwoman in one story) and the search for Batman really starts to develop, here. I enjoyed Volume 1, but IMO, this one is far superior.

It gets AWESOME. I highly recommend this
First volume is kind of a drag, but it gives backstory and character development for this volume 2. It gets AWESOME. I highly recommend this, it has mystery, action, and great art. Fun read and you MUST read the first volume.

Batman & Robin: Batman vs Robin
Format: Hardcover
First things first... This book will only make sense to you ONLY if you've been following Grant Morrison's complete run of Batman (including Final Crisis). If you haven't, most likely you won't like it or you'll get half the excitement this baby carries. I used to think I didn't like Frank Quiely's art, but after the psychedelic style he put on the first volume, I found myself missing him in this particular book. The art in the first 3 chapters (The Blackest Knight) is terrible. So simple and flat. The writing is good, but the art took whatever excitement for me. On the other hand, the art on the next chapters is quite better, and together with the story I end up wanting more. I have to give it to Grant Morrison. If they give him time and creativity control, he can make things happen (although it would be better if Dan Didio wouldn't make him re-write the end of Final Crisis). There's only 2 things I don't like about all this (besides the art on the first 3 issues): FIRST - I don't understand WHY Dick Grayson have to use electric knuckles every time he fights. SECOND: Seems to be now everybody knows Batman's secret identity. I liked the book as a whole, and I can't wait to check it all out now that lots of the beans has been spilled.

The reason I started reading Comics again
Format: Hardcover
This is the best comic book series I have read in a very long time. It will go down as a classic in the Batman Mythos. It should be on the top ten list when it comes to Batman tales. I was intrigued by the idea of Dick Grayson assuming the mantle and how he would interact with the new Robin Damien. What is really cool is the reversal of making Batman the light while Robin is the darkness in the partnership. I highly recommend it. This is an awesome set of stories. Read volume One first before you read this volume to see how it all comes together. When its all said it done it will amaze you.

Grant Morrison continues his mastery
Batman and Robin Volume 2 continues the story of Dick as Batman, Damian as Robin, replacing Bruce Wayne in Gotham after the events of Final Crisis (no spoilers here, despite the age). The artwork is clever, everchanging in style, and intricate; I find new details almost every time I re-read, it has such depth. I wrote an absolutely glowing recommendation for Volume 1, and this deserves similar praise, as does Volume 3 and The Return of Bruce Wayne. Highly recommend the entire arc
