PowerPlay 20The Philadelphia Flyers PowerPlay started as the Philadelphia PowerPlay in 2003. Founder, Pat Hilferty, created the team with the purpose of providing an athletic and social outlet for people who use power wheelchairs in their daily lives. The Flyers PowerPlay have played their regular season games every other Saturday from September through June at a number of different venues over the years. The Philadelphia Flyers PowerPlay started as the Philadelphia PowerPlay in 2003. Founder, Pat Hilferty, created the team with the purpose of providing an athletic and social outlet for people who use power wheelchairs in their daily lives. The Flyers PowerPlay have played their regular season games every other Saturday from September through June at a number of different venues over the years.

Pat Hilferty passed away in May of 2017 from complications due to his Muscular Dystrophy. Over the years, the team established an on-going relationship with the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL. In September of 2017, the Flyers adopted the PowerPlay as the first powerhockey team to be in partnership with an NHL franchise.

In addition to regular season competition, an important part of the Flyers PowerPlay history has been the tournament team. Most summers, the Flyers PowerPlay select a group of players to represent the organization at tournaments across the United States and Canada. Since 2009, the team has competed in nine tournaments against the best Powerhockey teams in North America. The tournament team won the US Powerhockey Championship in 2013, the Powerhockey Cup in 2018, and the Canada Cup in 2019.
