Mucinex Fast-Max Adult Severe Congestion and Cough Liquid relieves severe congestion and cough symptoms with a liquid that combines the mucus busting power of Mucinex and maximum strength medicines. It contains Dextromethorphan HBr cough suppressant, Guaifenesin expectorant, and Phenylephrine HCl nasal decongestant. Use to control cough, relieve nasal & chest congestion, and thin & loosen mucus.
Cough
A cough is a reflex that helps get rid of mucus and foreign particles in your airways. When the cough receptors scattered throughout your airways are stimulated by irritants or triggered by an accumulation of excess mucus, they send a signal to the cough center in the brain to bring about a cough.
Chest Congestion
Chest congestion is when the membranes that line your airways are irritated and inflamed, resulting in the production of thicker and more abundant mucus. This irritation can be caused by inhaling particles such as allergens, bacteria or viruses.
Nasal Congestion
The underlying cause of your stuffy nose is typically irritated or inflamed nasal mucus membranes and surrounding tissue as well as enlarged blood vessels. That stuffed up feeling that comes with congestion is mostly caused by this swelling combined with the thick mucus that may be stuck in your narrowed nasal passages, making it difficult to breathe through the nose.
