Six Questions Your Decorating Den Interiors Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this interior design franchise financial model using deep-dive research into unit-level performance. Key assumptions like the $600,000 year-one revenue target and the 13% combined royalty and marketing burden are pre-populated but fully editable to match your local market. It is a practical tool for estimating ROI for interior design franchise units without the usual fluff. Research-backed data beats gut feelings every time.

What is the profitability trajectory?

Based on the data, this unit hits a positive EBITDA of $161,000 in its first year, scaling up to $467,000 by year five as your reputation grows. Profitability depends on managing the 12.5% procurement costs and keeping the lead designer's $85,000 salary productive through high-ticket turnkey projects. Profit follows the designer's billable producitvity.

Boost Unit Profit

  • Increase turnkey project volume
  • Lower procurement costs
  • Optimize designer billable hours
[dynamic_pic9]

How much capital is required?

You will need roughly $80,000 to $100,000 in initial capital to cover the $39,900 franchise fee, the $15,000 mobile vehicle, and studio fit-out. The model also accounts for a $1,178 minimum cash floor to ensure you can cover the $3,500 monthly rent during the ramp-up phase. Cash is king during the build-out phase.

Primary Capital Uses

  • Franchise Fee: $39,900
  • Mobile Design Vehicle: $15,000
  • Studio Fitout: $8,500
[dynamic_pic10]

What is the return on investment?

The model shows an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 12.29% and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 1.43. While the initial investment is modest, the payback period extends after year five because of the high ongoing labor and royalty costs. Still, the cash flow remains strong once you hit the mature $1.2 million revenue mark. Patience is required for full capital recovery.

Key Investment Metrics

  • IRR: 12.29%
  • ROE: 1.43
  • Payback: After Year 5
[dynamic_pic11]

What is the break-even point?

You reach the break-even date in April 2026, just four months after launching. This quick turn is possible if you hit the ground running with $240,000 in annual product sales and keep fixed costs like the $3,500 studio rent under control. Speed to break-even defines your first year.

Reach Break-Even Faster

  • Secure pre-launch design fees
  • Minimize initial sample inventory
  • Use mobile vehicle early
[dynamic_pic12]

What is the cash runway?

Your lowest cash point occurs in April 2026, coinciding with your break-even month. With a minimum cash balance of $1,178, there is very little room for error if a project gets delayed or a client misses a payment. I'd defintely recommend a slightly larger cash buffer to handle the $3,500 monthly studio rent during slow months. A thin buffer is a risky buffer.

Protect Your Cash Flow

  • Phase studio furniture buys
  • Negotiate vendor payment terms
  • Delay junior designer hire
[dynamic_pic13]

How do different scenarios change outcomes?

In a high-revenue scenario where you hit $1.2 million earlier, your year-one EBITDA margin jumps significantly. Conversely, a low scenario where design fees lag by 20% could push your break-even back by several months and require more working capital. The model lets you toggle these variables to see how sensitive your profit is to labor costs and marketing efficiency. Scenarios prepare you for the unexpected.

Hit the High Case

  • Focus on high-margin furniture
  • Maximize realtor referral network
  • Host monthly design workshops

The Perfect First Shoe! Worth the Price.
My little one was just starting the stand/learning to walk and we wanted something to protect his feet while we were out of the house. Since babies/toddlers grow out of their shoes so quickly, I tried desperately to find shoes that didn't cost more than $20. However, I tried about 6 different "cheaper" shoes, all different brands, and nothing would stay on my babies feet. I finally broke down and bought these shoes and they are perfect. I ended up wasting more money trying not to spend too much money on shoes that would be too small after a couple months. It would have been cheaper for me to just buy these shoes to start. Fit wise they are great. Super easy to put on. They stay on! I appreciate the rubber portion on the sole because it gave my little one more traction when he was learning to walk. They are light way and the sole is very flexible which is important for the proper development of their feet. I just wish they made larger sizes because I am going to have to start the hunt all over for the perfect shoe once he grows out of the biggest size that Robeez sells. Save yourself time and avoid wasting money on shoes that don't stay on. Just buy these shoes!

Cute and STABLE
Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Navy Leather
This brand was recommended by a family member as being good for kids who are learning how to walk, and I definitely agree. My son had a different pair of shoes from Carter’s that fit well and looked cute, but the soles were a little too slick for an early walker despite having little rubberized dots on them. I like that these have more realistic soles, with real traction and support, but still allow the kid’s foot to flex. My son is very comfortable in them and was immediately noticeably more stable while standing and practicing walking in them. Bonus- they are super cute and this design is neutral enough to go with plenty of his clothes. My only small complaint is a little thread coming loose on one shoe, but so far it isn’t causing any issues/doesn’t seem to be unraveling anything structural. Highly recommend overall!

Great shoes!
Size: 18-24 Months Toddler, Color: Grey Leather
Love these shoes, only shoes I put my 15 month old in. However, they do run small. I bought 12-18 month size and my boy out grew them before 12 months old, I had to repurchase 18-24m to fit perfectly.

The BEST toddler shoe!!
Size: 18-24 Months Toddler, Color: Brooks Grey Leather
These shoes are 100% worth every penny. They are super easy to get on and off due to the fact that the tongue pulls back fully and they are flexible yet sturdy. They are excellent quality and have maintained great condition with my busy toddler at the park. The wide toe box provides great comfort for my little one’s wide feet. Buy the shoes!!!

Bummed they fell apart they are super cute
Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Raiden Camel Suede, Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Raiden Camel Suede
I’m so bummed because these shoes are so cute and highly rated but mine fell apart after only a few wears. They say light outdoor activities and I would assume they mean walking up and down the block in the neighborhood. My son is only 15 months old and doesn’t walk fast or far at all so it’s really disappointing they fell apart.
