Korean Giant Asian Pear is a fruiting deciduous tree with an upright habit and showy spring flowering grown for its extra large early fall fruit.  The round dark russet fruits have frim crisp flesh with a wonderful sweetness and can weigh up to a pound each.  Grows best in full sun and rich, moist well-drained soils.  Korean Giant is resistant to fireblight and pear scab.

Asian pears keep their texture when cooked, and store for long times. Korean Giant needs a cross-pollinator  and has a chill requirement of 800 hours.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  High Maintenance. Needs regular watering.  Pears are particularly prone to fire blight, especially after wet and warm springs.  Other issues include canker, powdery mildew, scab, and anthracnose.  Possible pests include pear psylla, coddling moth and borers.  Fallen fruit can be messy if not harvested.
